HARPER HDRA

Compact and fast actuator
TRL 3

Description

HARPER is an ultra-thin and fast HDRA-type actuator. Its operating principle is based on the release of a screw head by spreading two jaws apart. The release is gradual, allowing the tie rod to be unloaded before being released. HARPER does not generate shock during the activation. The activation time is less than 100 ms allowing multiple HARPERs to be synchronized. The maximum preload is 3 kN. HARPER uses a NiTi initiator, and the operational temperature range is from -120 to +70°C. A potential evolution will enable an operational range of -120 to +120°C. HARPER is reusable and can be reset by the user through a manual operation that can be performed in situ.

  • No heater
  • Activation during atmospheric re-entry
  • Adjustable activation temperature
